Front design : Kumu Charles Kauhi Ka'upu Jr. is standing on Palapalai wearing Lei Po'o (Head) which known as "bushman".
There are 'ohekapala, 5 big mountains and 3 small mountains. That means
his age, 53 years. And Dobule 7 diamonds mean Makali'i (Subaru) is above
Mt. Haleakala in Maui.
Also, there are 2 tatoos, which are the same designs on his shoulder.

Back design : This chant is the last one written by Charles Kauhi Ka'upu Jr. and Jean Ileialoha Keale Beniamina on May 24th, 2010. So, we added his tatoos on his arm and his autograph. "Hale Hawaii" is our trademark, there are 8 Hawaiian islands.
Here is his explanation on his chant: Aloha Ho'i 'Oe E Ku'u Home Aloha ho'i 'oe e ku'u home la ea
Me na Hawai'i o na kai 'ewalu Mai ka paepae kapu o Līloa la ea
A i ka paepae kapu o Hi'iaka Mai ke ka'i mai ana o ka lā i Ha'eha'e la ea
A i ka lā welo ho'i o Lehua Ke ala hele a ka lā i Kauhi-a-Kama la ea
Ha'aheo 'oe e na Honoa'opi'ilani Eia a'e 'oe Kohemālamalama la ea
Kuhikuhi i Kealaokahiki Hiki aku Lana'i no Kaulula'au la ea
Au mai o Hina, eia Mololani Moe ke kai o Ka'iwi la ea
Hali'ilua i O'ahu Ahu wale ke kawelu o Makaiwa la ea
Ahe hiwahiwa na Kamakahelei Lei mai na 'ale o Ka'ulakahi la ea
Ho'okahi a'u lei e kau nei Eia ku'u aloha o na kai 'ewalu la ea
Ka lei a ku'u pae 'āina o Hawai'i nei! Ku'u home aloha e ho'oipo nei I purposely did not translate this and share the reasoning for this being
written instead. This is a new oli written for the Sinnyo-en Lantern Floating
Ceremony May 31, 2010 at Ala Moana O'ahu. Completed in Lihu'e Kaua'i on
Monday May 24th at the residence of Ileialoha.
A mele that encompasses our Hawai'i and the love of our island home, and our native people. It is meant to be for our po'e Hawai'i... From the sacred stepping stones of Liloa to that sacred steps of Hi'iaka on Ni'ihau, from the rising of the sun at Ha'eha'e to the wanning of the sun at Lehua, with the play on word 'hua' to signify that with the sun comes the fruit (symbolically) that it provides... The sun now climbs the slopes of Haleakala and famous are the bays of Pi'ilani (in honor of my island home and name, Kauhi).
Next is Kohemalamalama (Kaho'olawe) and the famed departure point of Kealaokahiki. Across the way is Lana'i of Kaulula'au and Hina enveloped by the sea, here is Mololani in reference to Moloka'i. The glassiness of Ka'iwi (smooth transition of the sun) spread out before it is O'ahu making reference to the sun's hitting the Mauna Lua area on the island. The limu Kawelu used to grow at Makaiwa, famed surfing spot for the ali'i, Ho'oipoikamalanai for example, and home to Kamakahelei, one of the last cheifess to be born at Kukaniloko on O'ahu... Kaulakahi is the channel that leads now to Ni'ihau and its waves are liken to a lei that surrounds the island, a single lei that is mine (in honor of Ilei).
This is my love for my eight seas (poetic reference to our island home), like a lei for me this island home Hawai'i, my home that is my love.... Mahalo a nui... Charles K Kaupu Jr |
